Exciting opportunity to join an established agency opening a new office in Portland as their content focused Creative Director. If you have strong agency experience, have lead creative teams, written content for video campaigns, and love working with big brands we want to hear from you!

Enthusiastic David in a World of Goliaths seeks a Creative Director, with a strong background in storytelling, for their new Portland office. This individual will jump into a small but quickly expanding creative shop that has a long established global client list and a focus on building from the culture out. You will work in a fast-paced, fun environment full of unpredictable and unexpected changes. Clients include: HP, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Virgin Racing, Philips Healthcare, DreamWorks, PepsiCo North America, Pepsi International, ResMed, and a couple of very interesting start-ups.

You are a creative contributor, conceptual interpreter, clarifier of complexity, master of emotional expression and a rock-star of the written word. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, fresh thinker, creative problem-solver, ownership of projects, and someone who is flexible, collaborative and keeps a positive attitude especially under pressure. Ideation, managing other writers, a hunger for learning about our clients’ businesses, creating and being a part of new-business pitches is what we seek.

  • Consider yourself to have content strategy skills—meaning you aren’t just a robot who can’t function without a creative brief—you can dig deep and problem solve when needed
  • Have an ability to transform technical ideas into creative, conversationally-toned copy
  • Play well with others and enjoy working in close collaboration with strategists and designers from initial conception to final execution

  • Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Concept big ideas as well as write persuasive, original copy
  • Provide leadership and management to copywriter, art director team and freelancers on projects you are leading and coordinate effectively with other discipline leads to complete projects
  • Develop a deep understanding of client expectations and brand voice, as well as the needs, motivations and aspirations of a given target audience
  • Merge research insights with personal experience and instinct to generate inspirational copy
  • Collaborate with agency team members from creative and account services to produce engaging and impactful work
  • Ensure copy tone and style are consistent with visual tone and style
  • Successfully communicate, present and sell-in creative ideas and strategic rationale behind them
  • Adapt appropriately to competing demands and shifting priorities
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging trends, innovation and advancements in the creative industry

  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing or related field, plus minimum 10 years of professional copywriting experience, agency setting a must
  • Prior experience as a Creative Director who has lead and grown teams
  • Ability to think strategically and conceptualize creatively
  • Exceptional writing and polished client presentation skills demonstrating a clear vision of addressing client challenges
  • Leads by example and mentors younger creative in their development
    Successfully manages multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • Willingness to push your craft, get your hands dirty and make great things
