Creative Director

The Creative Director position at our agency client requires design experience, is dynamic, collaborative, calls for good interpersonal skills, and a keen business sense. One day you may be art directing a photo shoot, the next you may be inspiring team members in a brainstorming session. The following day may include hands on creative execution followed by budget planning.

This agency acts as a family; “Our interactions must be underscored with respect, communication, and sometimes forgiveness.” There is no communication hierarchy, everyone must work towards positive interaction, mentoring one another (everyone has something to teach and everyone has something to learn), and supporting one another during good and “challenging” days.

The Creative Director will use their strong interpersonal skills as the Creative Ambassador for the agency nurturing and supporting design initiatives with clients and team members. As an Ambassador of the agency the Creative Director is also expected to participate in new business efforts and ensure strong client relations on their own, and in tandem with project management team members.

This position requires management and business experience. It has multiple senior reports and will partner with the seniors to manage a growing number of design team members. As such it requires a background mentoring people and leading by example and through written and verbal direction, and allocating workflow to maximize team resources and morale. Additionally, this position is responsible for estimating design project and operational costs accurately, the overall profitability of the design team, and, in tandem with the Account Director, a profitable margin for the agency.

We are looking for design experience and creative passion. Experience is necessary, creative curiosity probably comes naturally to you. This is a team member with a history in design that encompasses art direction in graphic and digital design. Supportive problem solving based on past success and failures, transparency, group/team thinking. And a creative thinker with passion, that wants to have fun, and who can conceptualize and guide effective creative solutions.

Position Requirements

  • Possess knowledge of industry-standard design software.
  • An intimate understanding of retail design, graphic design, typography, illustration and photo shoot development and execution; as well as an experienced art director.
  • Manage budgets and be accountable for the profitability of the design team.
  • Self motivated with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, under tight deadlines.
  • Manage teams, timelines, and projects across multiple categories.
  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be comfortable presenting in front of groups of people.
  • Experience working with fortune 100 clients.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel.
  • This is not a 'sit at your desk all day' kinda job.

  • The creative head of the agency.
  • Establishes and maintains creative vision, excellence and guidelines that ensure client satisfaction. Inspires and directs internal team members.
  • Leads all design team operations and is responsible for design department standards, budgets, strategy, growth and profitability.
  • Minimum ten years industry experience.
  • Significant client Interaction as an Ambassador of the agency who seeks, builds and maintains client relationships and new business opportunities. Responsible for representing the agency at the highest level.
  • Responsible for scheduling accuracy and overall profitability of the entire design team. Partners with the Project Management team to explain changes in budget (up or down) to clients.
  • Adjusts processes and policies as needed.

  • Mentor and teach strategies, knowledge and expertise to guide and inspire senior level designers and leaders.
  • Work with others to develop and execute creative strategy and goals.
  • Model a positive, solution oriented attitude and effective communication style for the entire company.
  • Leverage experience to guide and inspire advanced designers to reach solutions, whether creative or managerial.
  • Be accountable for project and category profitability, both short-term and long.
  • Direct involvement on projects for new agency clients, projects selected to elevate agency creative with existing clients and other high level interaction creative opportunities.
