Client is the leading business payments network, with over 1,000,000 members paying and getting paid over $26 billion per year. Client saves companies more than 50% of the time typically spent on financial back-office operations by automating end-to-end processes. The recipient of more than 43 awards, Client was recently recognized as one of the San Francisco Business Time's Most Innovative Companies and proudly received a PC Magazine's Editor's Choice Award.

Client is a channel driven business. The company has direct, accountant and bank channels.

Both the direct and accountant business grow by convincing prospects to sign up and try the Client service directly from the website, landing pages or other digital advertising and marketing programs. The bank channel grows by having banks market and sell client’s service to their customers. The banks look to client for guidance and training on marketing and sales best practices.

Client engages in rigorous and rapid A/B/C split quantitative creative testing. The company has invested in the infrastructure that supports this testing on the website, landing pages and digital advertising. The marketing team initiates programs and partners with the creative team to continuously improve measured program response.

With these business dynamics, the majority of the work delivered by the client’s creative team is digital direct response. The client’s creative director leads the visual design efforts to achieve strong business growth.

● Ensures that our website, advertising and all other marketing materials are expertly designed to achieve objectives
● Ensures all marketing materials visually communicate our core brand attributes
● Sources and manages a top-notch, productive, high performance design team
● Facilitates continuous improvement for both design effectiveness and development efficiency
● Manages resource allocation and contention effectively--the creative director assigns the various projects to the client’s design team and ensures on-time and on-budget completion

● Leads the design team to ensure effective design is produced on target for achieving measured objectives. Many projects require rapid turnaround times along with strong collaboration with marketing, copywriters and other stakeholders.

Common client visual design objective are:
○ Delivers targeted response rates or improved response targets; (Note: business objectives such as achieving response rates always supercedes building the visual brand or brand objectives)
○ Iterations provide measured lift in response
○ Informs or educates target audience
● Works productively with project driver/initiator and copywriter
● Puts a highly productive, creative, effective and readily available design team in place that can easily expand or contract based on business needs and project types (web, landing page, video, print, etc.)
○ Employees
○ Contractors and agency relationships
● Introduces tools and processes that make the design function measurably more efficient and effective. Examples:
○ Quarterly design team reviews
○ Quarterly stakeholder reviews of design team work and results
○ Project kick-off brief
○ Templates
○ Brand guidelines and font library
○ Repository of previous designs and measured results
● Ensures the client’s visual brand representation supports our business goals and effectively communicates core brand attributes: simplicity, business empathy and joy

Requirements for Success
● Demonstrates well-developed management skills
○ Source and inspire a team of superior design resources
○ Develop people: coaches people in their current roles to improve performance, and prepares them for future roles
○ Determine and plan future resource needs
○ Effectively manage to a budget

● Exhibits superior design skills with broad expertise--particularly around digital direct response
● Works independently with project initiators across marketing functions as well as directly with the creative team on more conceptual projects as required. Excellent communication skills are a must along with the ability to describe concepts and ideas and present drafts to the team.
● Shows a process management and continuous improvement orientation
○ Resource project requests so that initiatives are completed on time and on budget
○ Determine best practices and create effective means for communicating them
○ Embrace build, test, measure, repeat methodology
○ Plan and organize resources and workflows
○ Communicate and document clear, concise and effective brand and design guidelines other designers can easily follow
● Generates creative and innovative approaches to design challenges
● Demonstrates strong desire to learn about the business, relevant technologies, and best practices

Professional Experience and Education
● At least 3 years of experience as a people manager
● At least 8 years professional work experience as an in-house visual designer with full responsibility for at least a component of the visual brand of an organization
○ Experience designing for business end users
○ Experience designing for web applications
○ Experience creating, managing, and evangelizing brand and style guides
○ Exceptional skills with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
○ Demonstrated experience driving Direct Response, Brand awareness, and user engagement
○ Pixel-perfect production abilities and wireframing experience is desirable
● Bachelor’s degree is required. Education credentials in graphic design or similar discipline expected.
