Position Description


Our client, a leading insurance organization in Hartford is looking for a talented copywriter to join their team for a 6 month, onsite contract.

The Writer provides writing services for the in-house agency. The Writer is responsible for supporting the Writing Team Lead (“WTL”) in developing and producing marketing collateral materials for internal clients. The Writer must exhibit strong writing skills in achieving the highest possible standards for all materials requiring writing in assigned projects and tasks. They need a working knowledge of clients’ business challenges to execute writing requests as defined by the client.



Writing Development: Writes marketing assets as prescribed by creative/marketing briefs under the direction of the WTL
• Writes creative, effective marketing materials according to project specifications / creative brief from start-to-finish; and provides


  • Develops drafts for creative review

  • Recommends, researches and develops facts, quotes, and scenarios to support creative strategy and execution

  • Provides writing support for aligned client groups, as well as supporting projects from other clients as demand and scheduling requires

  • Collaborates with writing team as needed for specific project objectives

  • Collaborates with Senior Writer as needed for writing support and professional insights

  • Produces and is accountable for the final development of creative assets and ensures accuracy, attention to details and overall meets or exceeds the writing objectives

  • Ensures messaging brand guidelines and directives are embraced and adhered to in all executions


  • Client Service: Partners with the Senior Writer and account team to achieve effective and efficient outcomes


  • Engages with the account/client meetings when applicable

  • Works directly with account team as dictated by the scope of the project

  • Responds to customer requests and communications in a timely and thorough manner


  • Teamwork: Works to improve the team’s overall performance and embraces a collaborative approach


  • Actively seeks teammates for their input and insights on developing projects

  • Supports leadership in helping to build a unified team mindset


  • Technical/Functional Skills


    Job Knowledge: Demonstrates expertise of writing techniques, skills, tools and procedures for the applicable media.
  • Demonstrates proficient expertise in the Microsoft Office as required by the job function

  • Proficiency with AP Manual of Style

  • Understands writing applications in traditional and emerging channels

  • Maintains a consistent voice and audience focus in writing

  • Is able to “boil down” verbose content to the “essence” of the main message in a concise, effective manner

  • Exhibits consistent quality control in work

  • Exhibits an understanding of specific channels or vertical markets as required by job function

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt style of copy to various audiences, purposes, or media

  • Project manages/traffics their own workload


  • Communication: Writes and speaks effectively and is able to clearly communicate with peers, leadership team and clients.


  • States opinions clearly and can verbally explain writing approach

  • Provides open and honest feedback to supporting team members with the goal of striving to be the best

  • Respectfully questions direction from the Senior Writer or WTL to help clarify strategies or fill information gaps

  • Does not create an adverse (us vs. them) mentality regarding client/creative points of view

  • Eager to share writing with team early in the process to gain alignment on execution strategy


  • Strategic Thinking and Analysis: Leverages data and trends in the competitive landscape to inform the writing process


  • Reviews the briefs ensuring they fully understand the objectives

  • Is pragmatic with creative executions always keeping eye on the objectives of the assignment

  • Listens well and incorporates others viewpoints into the writing process


  • Typical Education/Experience/Certifications/Licenses:


  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • External or in-house agency experience required.

  • Minimum of two years professional level experience as a writer required.
