A leading marketing, advertising and sales management firm in the senior housing and services field, is seeking a qualified, outstanding candidate for the position of copy director. They take pride in having a top-notch team of creative marketing professionals, a diverse group offering extensive experience in the senior market as well as in their specific area of expertise.

The copy director is responsible for leading the firm’s overall development of copy for client projects and for maintaining and evolving our own brand voice.
This includes both hands-on development of positioning, direct marketing, collateral and online media copy, as well as reviewing, critiquing and editing copy from our freelance writing resources—ensuring the work reflects both the client’s and the agency’s goals and is tailored appropriately to each media.

The copy director must possess a keen understanding of discovery techniques and emotional storytelling—needed to draw out and bring our clients’ unique stories to life, connect with their audience(s) and motivate those audiences to take action.
This position assists with directing the creative copy staff such that the internal and freelance copy team has the capabilities, tools and processes in place to support the development of client work and the strategic initiatives of their firm in a competitive marketplace.

In addition, the copy director plays an important role in researching and advancing the firm’s knowledge and positioning in the senior field with respect to how to communicate most effectively with seniors.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Participate in and/or lead onsite client brand discovery activities in order to inform both brand platform development and brand expression processes
• Collaborate with the creative director and other agency personnel in building strategic brand positioning platforms and goals-based communication approaches
• Oversee or develop positioning, direct marketing, collateral and online media copy—ensuring that it reflects both the client’s and the agency’s goals and is tailored appropriately and effectively to each media
• Develop the creative copy staff such that the internal and freelance copy team has the capabilities, tools and processes in place to support the development of client work and the strategic initiatives of their firm
• Advance the firm’s knowledge and positioning in the senior field with respect to how to communicate most effectively with seniors
Detailed Responsibilities
• Participate in and/or lead onsite client brand discovery activities in order to inform both brand platform development and brand expression.
— Utilize effective interview skills and discovery techniques in order to help identify key positioning/selling points and to draw out and bring our clients’ unique stories to life
• Collaborate with the creative director and other agency personnel in building strategic brand positioning platforms and goals-based communication approaches
— Contribute to internal brainstorming and brand program strategy and tactics development based on clients’ marketing program assessments, discovery and briefs
• Oversee or develop positioning, direct marketing, collateral and online media copy—ensuring that it reflects both the client’s and the agency’s goals and is tailored appropriately and effectively to each media
— Write unique positioning, direct marketing, collateral, online media and other copy
— Develop creative rationales in support of selected approaches, and assist in presenting work internally and to clients
— Assist in managing the copy workload, and review, critique and edit copy from freelance writing resources
— Utilize an understanding of content strategy for the Internet and optimize copy in order to leverage usability, SEO and SEM strategies
— Assist with creative department efforts to oversee and direct outside production resources, including radio and video vendors, photographers, freelancers, and web and interactive sub-contractors
— Oversee the final copy proofing process, working with proofreaders and the client services team to ensure final client copyedits are made and that work leaves the agency error-free
• Develop the creative copy staff such that the internal and freelance copy team has the capabilities, tools and processes in place to support the development of client work and the strategic initiatives of their firm
— Provide creative direction and clear communication for internal and freelance copywriters
— Review, measure and improve copy staff performance in the areas of creative output and project processes
— Identify, request and complete staff training in accordance with quarterly development plans
— Assist in the development of a freelance pool, skilled in writing for senior-specific industries and media types identified by management
• Advance the firm’s knowledge and positioning in the senior field with respect to how to communicate most effectively with seniors and Love & Company’s prospective clients
— Help identify and participate in independent agency research projects
— Maintain and evolve the agency’s brand voice in accordance with brand development goals
— Actively participate in creative department and agency strategic initiatives
