Contract System Administrator - 11203

Partners with development, DBAs, QA and other administrators to develop and implement improved packaging and deployment practices. Setup and configuration of monitoring servers (Graphite, Nagios), including client plugin install and managing alerts and groups. Setup and troubleshooting of development servers (including permissions, security), and implement solutions to prevent problems from recurring. Setup and configure Splunk server, including creating deployment config for all of our servers. Setup cron jobs so that disks never fill up, and create deployment pattern for all our builds Implement and document access policy across dev servers and systems, from htaccess to AWS security groups. Suggest and implement best-of-industry solutions for automated monitoring and maintenance of live servers. Any other scripting and sysadmin tasks needed to adapt our development architecture as we optimize it.Document all the above for our wiki and runbook, and handoff on completion of contract. Troubleshoots application, network, and server level problems for internal systems. Provides recommendations on process improvements.
Reviews log files and other server monitoring data for problems and perform proactive maintenance.
Participates in 24x7 on-call support and maintenance activities during live test periods.

What we’re looking for:

4+ years relevant experience in Linux/Unix Systems (RHEL/Centos) administration, including design, implementation, ongoing administration, and support of critical systems Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Experience in hosting on AWS, conversant with concepts on AWS, scripting experience to automate tasks on AWS. Experience developing tools for managing and monitoring servers on AWS.
AWS/EC2 experience (professional or personal projects) Demonstrated expertise in OS security fundamentals for publicly accessible Linux servers (iptables/access control, users/groups, log monitoring, intrusion detection)Ability to manage Linux server systems (Apache, Jetty, YP/NIS/LDAP, DNS/DHCP, NFS filers, etc.)
Experience with SQL database services (Oracle, MySQL)Working knowledge of backup and restore solutions in a Linux environment Experience with common scripting languages (Perl, Shell, Python, PHP, the more the better)
Experience with system replication and software/package deployment across servers. Familiarity with TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting
