POSITION DESCRIPTION

DEPARTMENT: Marketing

TITLE: Content Marketing Specialist

FUNCTION:

ROLE:
Seeking an energetic, organized, detail-oriented Content Marketing Specialist to maintain and foster excellence in content planning, content development and web content management. In this role the Content Marketing Specialist will be the internal champion in collecting and organizing content from subject matter experts, packaging content for copy writers, proofing and uploading content to corporate owned digital properties. The ideal candidate will have an advanced understanding of digital properties and content marketing and able to creatively identify and package the content assets in a thought-leadership style that is relevant and compelling to readers.

KEY DELIVERABLES:
1) Develop and manage a comprehensive, cross platform content calendar
2) Update corporate owned assets, including corporate website and social platforms
3) Champion the collection of content from internal subject matter experts
4) Deliver bulk of content in brief format to copy writer

KEY ATTRIBUTES OF CANDIDATE:
1) Experience in content development and content marketing
2) Experience developing and managing content calendar
3) Working knowledge of content engagement metrics
4) Understanding of digital properties and Content Management Systems
5) Experience showing the ability to coordinate (project manage) online communications initiatives and content development across cross-functional, geographically dispersed organizations
6) Understanding of the craft in developing thought-leadership copy for key personas
7) Versed in online communities and ability to develop ideas of how to repurpose and use content that has already been produced

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Collect content from internal subject matter experts
2) Show initiative in coordinating briefing meetings with subject matter experts
3) Ask the right questions of stakeholders to draw out value propositions
4) Compile content in brief format for copy writer
5) Establish, communicate and enforce content calendar milestones
6) Understand key engagement metrics that influence content needs from audience / personas
7) Contribute to the creation of an intuitive, engaging, brand-compliant web experience
8) Organize and upload content to the CMS
9) Check data integrity of content in the CMS. Pull and analyze reports. Conduct clean up, as needed.
10) Monitor competitor activity and industry trends and recommend new technologies, solutions, and opportunities for differentiation.
11) Consult with external and internal stakeholders to influence communication/content needs and expectations.
12) Be an advocate of the overall website strategy throughout the company.
13) Contribute to web strategy project delivery excellence
14) Ensure deliverables have been through appropriate management reviews and approvals.
15) Keep project momentum and morale strong, escalating risks and issues
16) Communicate regular project updates to stakeholders and ensure impact is understood.
17) Ensure ongoing editorial calendar/maintenance process for project area is in place.




EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE MINIMUMS:
1) Bachelors’ degree or recent, relevant professional experience.
2) Experience in web content development or content marketing
3) Experience developing and managing content calendar
4) Working knowledge of content engagement metrics
5) Knowledge of content management systems and social media tools

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
1) Technical content writing/editing experience for BtoB
2) ~5 years of experience in a Marketing or Advertising Agency serving Technology or IT companies and/or
3) ~5 years of experience in Product Marketing or Content Marketing in a Technology or IT company

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1) Ability to clearly abstract and articulate the value proposition, key messages and content objectives, to content creators
2) Strong sense for good story-telling
3) Demonstrable ability to grasp the value proposition of a campaign
4) Edit copy for writers if necessary
5) Detail oriented
6) Strong organization and project management skills to juggle multiple projects at a time, prioritize work, develop appropriate time lines and work to deadlines
7) Ability to manage production of all forms of content: written (white papers, case studies, customer testimonials, brochures, and spec sheets), video (customer stories, how-to’s, product focused videos), graphics (images, diagrams), interactive digital properties, web pages
8) Demonstrates knowledge of marketing fundamentals, content creation and integration, E-commerce, marketing promotion and campaign development
9) Strong sense of the characteristics of all media in order to maximize the impact of each
10) Comfortable with internet communications and publishing tools and protocols
11) Good understanding of SEO techniques and the ability to apply them to content
12) Demonstrates a thorough and deep understanding of the online space and the opportunities within it
13) Must be able to understand and consistently apply Branding guidelines and Messaging platforms
14) Demonstrates a strong understanding of brand building and value
15) Demonstrates effective influencing, negotiating and diplomacy skills
16) Demonstrates effective leadership skills and the ability to work productively in a cross functional, cross regional, team environment
17) Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with team members at remote locations
18) Able to work with minimum supervision in handling marketing processes and takes initiative as appropriate using independent discretionary decision making authority
19) Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills; listens effectively
20) Demonstrates proficiency regarding routine creative and technical computer applications, such as MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel
21) Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and content management systems
22) Fundamental knowledge of Web site usability and Web best practices
23) Fundamental knowledge of new and social media vehicles (blogs, Facebook, PDAs, BlackBerrys, etc.)
