As a Concept Artist & Visual Designer you’ll help visualize, ideate and design breakthrough experiences and innovative solutions that impact how millions of people use our products and services every day.
You will work close to the Art Director and Creative Director to define and push the vision of the product through a dynamic mix of drawing, storyboarding, illustration and rapid visualization skills. From research and concept ideation to visual prototyping and production you will collaborate with other artists, designers and developers to invent innovative experiences that span across all devices.

Reporting to the Art Director, you will collaborate with both the Art production team, Design, Development, and Outsourcing teams, in addition to scoping and scheduling with Producers. The Concept Artist / 3D Visual Designer delivers world-class visual concepts on schedule and with an eye toward production constraints and budgets, working in a combination of 2D and 3D as appropriate.

Our incubation team requires everyone to multi-task across various projects under changing production pressures, and to be flexible enough to receive and act on rapidly evolving creative direction – and as importantly, to also able to make strong, self-directed strategic decisions. They must be equal parts inventor, collaborator, and communicator.

As an incubation studio we place very high value on rapid, low-fi iteration and problem-solving through much of our design process, only requiring art polish some of the time. This artist must be a clever, visual problem-solver with both quick, low-fi visualization skills plus great attention to polish and detail when it’s needed; We work on any number of product types at any given time, so this artist needs to be confident across multiple visual styles, intuitively understanding the fundamentals of art and design history and practice, experienced through all phases of design development, from concept sketching through prototype and final artwork or 3D assets.

Responsibilities
• Design visually elegant and delightful experiences that deliver high value to our users.
• Work with the Art lead, Art Director and Design partners to set criteria across the project to prioritize and scope objectives in order to meet quality expectations.
• Deliver visual quality based on solid design thinking: Helping create and ship beautiful products and experiences that work well for our customers on time and at high quality.
• Participate in creative/design brainstorming and collaborative work sessions.
• Do visual research, produce reference mood-boards, storyboards, design briefs, sketches, visual language guidelines, 2D b/w and color concept artwork, 3D models from rough to refined or any mixture of these as required to develop and evolve the product/ experience designs – on time and at high quality.
• Work with the Art Director and art team, interaction designers, motion designers, and prototypers to ensure the visual design enhances the overall user experience.
• Understand the brand guidelines and the target consumer to ensure the visual design aligns to the brand strategy and consumer needs.
• Effectively coordinate and communicate across disciplines; working with Designers, Producers and Developers through implementation to realize design vision.
• Work with an open mind, transparency and humility with the goal of team success: this is not a place for a private, ‘ivory tower’ artist precious about protecting their creative authorship; we all throw ourselves into the problem-solving mix and must be ready to leave our egos at the door to find the best solutions.


Requirements
• Minimum 5+ years of professional concept illustration, visual development and/or product design experience, visual/graphic design and UX / interaction design for digital products and devices, including apps, games, tools or equivalent
• Extremely strong visual aesthetics and mature process; ability to use and create creative briefs, storyboards, mood boards, sketches, comps, style guides, etc. to create breakthrough designs
• Deep understanding of fundamental visual design disciplines (typography, iconography, composition, color, layout, etc.) and concept illustration (ideation and thumbnails through final color, including characters and environments, narrative and mood)
• Meticulous sense of detail balanced with the ability to seek out simple solutions to complex challenges
• Fearless creativity; always approaching a problem from multiple angles, and deliver a variety of solutions, from the expected to surprising;
• Experience with working collaboratively within an agile production team.
• Experience in delivering quality design and production work on time, accurately estimating schedules and consistently working smart to meet them.
• Fluency in contemporary entertainment, technology, social media, photography and product design trends
• Excellent professional maturity in written and verbal communication, presentation, and organizational skills
• High-level drawing and ‘traditional’ art skills combined with strong digital tools confidence, including quick sketching and ideation, storyboards and sequential breakdowns, technical illustration, and polished, color presentation concept art.
• Confidence in Low-fi to High-fi visualization
• Expertise with Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, 3D modeling tools (e.g. SketchUp, Maya, 3DsMax, Modo, Cinema4D, Zbrush, etc) and all related business and design tools.
• Ability to quickly produce stunning and elegant visual treatments at all levels of finish, from Low-fi to high-fi, combining photography, 2D illustration and 3D modeling approaches as needed.
• A minimum of a BA/BS degree in Illustration, Graphic Design, Visual Development, with Communication Design, Interface Design, Interaction Design, or equivalent experience a plus


Portfolio review required, including representations of your design process and problem solving on the way to the finished work.
