Communications Specialist

Manage all media relations to support business objectives, position sector staff as thought leaders in the market place, crisis response and management of the public release approval process. The position requires an individual to forge relationships with internal and external audiences. This role needs to gain the trust of reporters, understand the reporters’ unique publication and approach to covering stories in order to successfully position the sector. This role handles sensitive crisis communications messages. On the internal side, it is critical to earn the trust of senior leaders to provide media training/coaching. Further, the role entails excellent comprehension and writing skills and the ability to translate technical information into content that is understandable for key audiences.

Specifically, the position:
· Ensures key programs and capabilities, as defined by leadership and strategy, are the focus of media efforts
· Develops, writes and executes media plans in coordination with business development
· Develop and write press materials including press releases, talking points, media pitches, media statements
· Engages and develops relationships with reporters to position sector capabilities and staff as thought leaders
· Manages media at major trade shows / company events
· Provides media relations training for employees being interviewed
· Prepare media briefing materials and participate in preparing senior leadership for media interviews
· Crafts social media content and leverages as an integral element of campaign plans
· Oversees the public release approval process
· Create and manage crisis response communications
· Works with the senior leadership team and provide advice and counsel during reputation management issues
· Cultivate and maintain relationships with industry trade reporters
· Serve as spokesperson
· Report on media metrics to ensure established media goals are being achieved

Required Skills and Education:
Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or related field

Required Experience:
· Minimum of 8 years of experience in a related field
· Experience in creating and developing communication strategies and tactics, and the delivery
of communications materials
· Experience working successfully with reporters
