Communications Specialist

Our Fortune 500 client is seeking a PR / External Communications Specialist to join the Corporate Communications team. Reporting to the PR/External Communications Manager, the specialist will help build and protect the company’s reputation through external communications programs, including executive visibility and speaking engagements; thought leadership; financial communications; media relations; corporate reputation awards/rankings; social media; community relations and philanthropy; issues management and crisis communications; and corporate reputation event management. He or she will closely coordinate with sectors and regions, finance, investor relations, marketing, legal, HR and employee communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications Materials Development
• Assist in the development and execution of the company’s external communications plan that demonstrates a link between desired business outcome and communications activities
• Assist in execution of enterprise social media strategy
• Assist in editorial review for enterprise-wide external materials (news releases, byline articles, etc.)
• Assist in creation of PowerPoint presentations and speeches for executive visibility and thought leadership programs
• Write drafts and incorporate edits through the review process, including news releases, byline articles, annual report, media pitch materials, media background documents, briefing documents, scripts, PowerPoint presentations and Q&A’s

Content Management for Communications Channels
• Monitor client-owned communications channels and work with content owners across sectors and regions to identify, create and make needed changes to content that enhance corporate reputation, thought leadership and brand favorability
• Assist in maintenance of corporate content including corporate overview presentations and company fact sheets

Crisis and Issues Management
• Assist in identifying issues occurring in social media

Metrics Generation and Competitive Intelligence
• Track company’s social media presence across relevant sites and platforms
• Research and provide competitive intelligence benchmark data on best practices for a variety of communications disciplines

Other
• Assist in organization and project management of the 2015 Annual Report and Sustainability Supplement project
• Support the Corporate Communications team with Media Management Software program
• Assist in organization of logistics and executive briefing materials for corporate reputations events as needed, including investor days, community relations events and signature thought leadership events
• Identify process improvement opportunities

SKILLS
• Must possess strong project management, problem solving, listening and written and oral communication skills
• Must be able to work well with diverse groups, be a team player, possess analytical and “client service” skills, be an innovative thinker, and a self-starter
• Must excel and thrive in fast-paced environments; global experience a plus
• S/he will have the ability to manage project timelines and determine work flow effectively and appropriately; computer proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel required

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent, preferably in communications, business management or marketing.
• 5+ years directly related experience (i.e. public relations, corporate philanthropy, financial communications), preferably for a Fortune 500 company with diverse product categories and customer segments
• High technical proficiency
