Communication Specialist

As a part of the the Diabetes Advocacy Alliance team, provide research and communications support for the Government Affairs and Public Policy department
Work with the Diabetes Advocacy Alliance (DAA) and other federal, state, and public policy-related projects as assigned
Provide strategic counsel and ongoing communications support for a variety of projects (such as liaison with Healthy People 2020).
Provide strategic counsel and ongoing communications support for projects related to diabetes screening (such as new research) and the work of the DAA Screening and Diabetes Care Subcommittees.
Conduct online research to inform communications documents, such as fact sheets and backgrounders, that support advocacy with policymakers (examples include ongoing DAA projects and state diabetes action plans).
Write content for Web sites.
Provide communications support services to the Medicare Diabetes Screening Project.
Provide communications support services for desk drop projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree in communications or equivalent experience
Minimum 15 years in professional positions in communications or advocacy, preferably with health care-specific experience In-depth knowledge of diabetes and the diabetes community
Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry
Ability to handle multiple priorities and coordinate contacts with various vendors and internal customers
Ability to work well in teams
Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
Proven ability to effectively manage projects
Demonstrated ability to treat confidential matters with appropriate discretion
Proven ability to solve difficult problems and overcome conflict situations
