Communication Manager

The Communications Manager will be responsible for leading a wide range of communications work that includes: strategic communications consultation, integrated communications strategy development, communications program planning and execution, and issues management for the Northwest. Reporting to the Director of PR Communications, the Communications Manager will design, manage and deploy communications programs that deliver measurable results for the organization. The Communications Manager will demonstrate proven success as a professional communications generalist with domain expertise. He or she will have direct reports and/or supervise outside vendors and could serve as backup to the director as needed. He or she will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating a critical strategic area for the region: Health Plan; Care Delivery; Community and Workforce.

Essential Functions:
• Strategic Communications Program Leadership: Lead strategic communications teams to develop and fulfill the strategic and operational goals and objectives of the company Northwest's Brand Communications & Public Relations department leadership.
• Responsible for managing and executing integrated communications strategies and programs to achieve business unit/department goals, organizational objectives, campaign/event strategies and issues management.
• Provide communications consulting to business unit, department or operational leaders (Director through VP) on internal and external communications and emerging reputational issues.
• Strategize with internal stakeholders, write communications plans and creative briefs, research and analyze information, write articles, prepare presentations, presentations, speeches and plan logistics.
• Strategic Message Development and Placement: Work with business unit or department leaders to distill complex ideas and concepts into on-brand messages.
• Socialize strategic messaging through on-brand communications campaigns, assets and channels.
• Optimize communications by linking brand messages to broader, cross-functional programs and/ or cross-organizational plays and agendas.
• Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with business unit or department-level executives.
• Serve as primary point of contact for issues management as they pertain to specific business units or departments.

Basic Qualifications:
• Ten (10) plus years of experience in corporate communications/PR environment, to include two (2) years of supervisory/leadership experience with projects, programs and communications staff.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing complex external communications plans (objectives, strategies, messaging, and tactical action) and projects for a large, complex organization, with track record of increasing responsibility.

• Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, business or equivalent work experience.
• Demonstrates proven success as a professional communications generalist with domain expertise in executive visibility, media relations, community relations, multimedia, internal communications and stakeholder engagement.
• Intensive executive communications support of senior leaders- including speech development and training as well as message development and delivery preparation in issues / situation management scenarios requiring:
• Programmatic thinking.
• Strategic consultation capability.
• Client relationship building.
• Systems thinking.
• Successful track record navigating matrixed organizations.
• Demonstrated excellence in directly supporting executives in large organizations and influencing their approach to communications while nurturing relationships.
• Demonstrated professional-level writing and editing skills for all communications mediums.
• Excellent skills in researching and accessing information from the Internet.
• Strong communication and planning skills.
• Must be detail oriented, well organized, self-directed and team oriented.
• Demonstrated expertise in the application of problem solving/analytical skills and be results focused.
• Demonstrated ability to lead others through influence, collaboration and clarity of expectations.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Three (3) plus years of supervisory role and major project leadership experience preferred.
• Public Relations and health care industry experience preferred.
• Proven experience with organizational change, corporate reputation management, internal brand reinforcement, and stakeholder engagement preferred.
• Demonstrated experience on cross-functional, integrated (internal/external) efforts preferred.
• Master's degree in a related field preferred.
• APR preferred.
• Proven ability to respond to emerging issues and crises preferred.
• Proven ability to design communications that deliver measurable results against research metrics preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership with teams that builds confidence and alignment with objectives preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly and influentially about design issues and objectives preferred.
• Demonstrated excellence in working collaboratively in a team setting preferred.
• Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, detail oriented, and decision making skills preferred.
• Ability to maintain high productivity amid competing priorities and tight deadlines preferred.
• Ability to make sound decisions autonomously and to act independently in the best interests of the company preferred.
• Proven project management skills preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of Macintosh and Microsoft Office software including PowerPoint preferred.
• Knowledge of publication production preferred.
• Knowledge of portable document format (PDF) technologies, file transfer, encoding, and compression options preferred.
• Regularly contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques, and standards preferred.
• Frequently contributes to the development of new theories and methods preferred.
• Employs expertise as a generalist preferred.
• Ability to handle multiple projects at one time preferred.
• Working knowledge of web-based communication/new and social media preferred.
