STRATEGY: The Channel strategy will be based on a deep understanding of the Channel, Retailer, and Shopper dynamics, and tailored to capture volume, value, and share in each Channel.
Accordingly, the talent must possess strong retail,shopper and marketing acumen. This talent will support the build-out of annual Channel calendars and definition of the Channel strategies within their respective
accounts guiding the Marketing, Merchandising, and Training.
As with all other competency areas defined herein, this talent leads some cross-channel initiatives solo but will generally support the Channel Marketing Managers execute their myriad of Channel activities.
PLAN: This role demands strong critical thinking, problem-solving skills and an execution-minded mentality. This talent must be able to identify business opportunities (Merchandising, On-line, Marketing and Promotions) that are relevant for a Channel of Trade or unique to a given Retailer (e.g. heating/cooling season, Fire Safety, Holiday).
This talent will support the definition of these opportunities in the Annual Joint Business Plan, work across various functions (internally and externally) to implement solutions per opportunity throughout the year, and given the dynamic nature of the business and identify incremental opportunities as they arise.
Having an intimate knowledge of the retailer’s marketing/merchandising platforms will be critical to the success of the role. It will be the role of this talent to stay on top of retail and marketing trends to develop plans and deliver content that is relevant and centered around shopper awareness and consumer conversion.
SELL: In addition to driving marketing and merchandising programs, this talent must be able to synthesize both together into a compelling shopper story (awareness, engagement, conversion) and “sell” such a story both internally to key Creative & Selling Team stakeholders as well as external Retail individuals as appropriate.
EXECUTE: This talent will help sell-in and implement agreed upon Channel solutions, and then track, measure and learn from the results. Talent will partner with the analyst to determine ROI and performance of channel programs and to influence future decision-making. Lastly, the talent will support the development of all POS and on-line programs and work associated to bring these programs to market (e.g. managing vendor relations, PO creation) and assist the Head of Retail Execution in the coordination/set-up of all in-store programs as defined by field execution standards.
PEOPLE: though an individual contributor, the talent must demonstrate strong collaboration skills, as they will be integral to completing the job effectively across both internal and external stakeholders. The talent must also be comfortable and confident leading important, complex discussions with Retail Partners, Production Vendors, and Internal Business Partners, amongst others.
3+ years of relevant visual merchandising,
Strong knowledge of retail environment and development of channel management programs.
Understands Retailer operations and dynamics.
Experience with tools and techniques to merchandise and market categories and products at retail.
Experience and skills in preparing for, participating in, and leading the selling process (to Retailers) as needed.
Brand Management or Product Marketing experience
Experience working for world class, highly recognizable brands in the CPG space
Culture fit - fast paced, good communicator, customer service driven, problem solver, self-starter, analytical
Masters of Business Administration or related degree.
