JOB SUMMARY: Drive category sales and gross profit margins through the use of category management goals, objectives and principles. Maintain in depth familiarity with category products, market trends, customer and sales trends, operational issues and competitor programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Develop and execute strategic sales and merchandising programs to drive customer traffic and sales/profit margins across assigned categories
• Explore and source new products, programs and offerings to spur continuous improvement in assigned categories. Maintain speed to market.
o Balance immediate category needs with forward planning that can create future category opportunities
o Opportunities to grow Holiday’s private label product line
o Seasonal product introductions
• Foster a culture of continuous innovation
o Regularly evaluate current programs and deliver new ideas to advance Holiday’s merchandising programs
o Create/improve internal processes to simplify communication/rollouts of programs
• Ability to create annual category budgets and manage throughout the calendar year.
• Complete tasks and projects in timely manner; balance multiple demands and priorities in fast paced environment while meeting deadlines and maintaining high performance
o Manage calendar highlighting seasonal promotion deadlines to assist with planning ahead
• Collaborate with management to set category budgets and sales/profit goals
• Collaborate with other Category Managers to initiate and validate ideas, develop opportunities for category sale synergies
• Negotiate contracts/programs with McLane, National Manufacturers and DSD Vendors
• Establish strong professional business relationships with national vendors and manufacturers
o Set clear directions/expectations for vendors in regards to promotions, service, store deliveries, POS, and consistency across stores & regions
o Challenge manufacturers to deliver innovative approaches to programs, promotions and space productivity
• Engage and align category initiatives and programs with Operations (Store Managers, District Managers, Regional Directors) and Franchisees
o Provide on-going communication on category merchandising, promotions, communications, initiatives, etc
o Develop effective topics (ex: Enhanced Customer Care opportunities) for coordinators to discuss in News & Notes, emails and other field communications
o Define and share sales results that are most relevant to various audiences
• Analyze and Interpret P/Ls, promotions, category reporting, category data and monthly competitive shopping surveys and make recommendations for Category improvement and enhancements
o Collaborate with internal Analysts
o Utilize wealth of data to drive decisions
o Assess revenue to space productivity.
o Utilize price optimization tools
o Utilize learnings from McLane Lab/category refresh process
• Assess and evaluate industry trends and competitor activity for assigned categories
o Regular store, DM, RDO and competition visits
• Effectively manage direct reports; clearly communicate expectations, manage workload and improve process inefficiencies

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Demonstrated understanding of retail category management (planning, plan-o-gram, signage, etc.)
• Ability to analyze category sales, margins, results and inventory data
• Ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects in effective, efficient and timely manner
• Self-motivated individual with a passion for driving category sales, creating new ideas and opportunities
• Ability to work in fast paced, challenging and ever changing retail environment
• Ability to work well with team members, store operations and internal departments
• Understanding of FDA guidelines and other legal implications if applied to assigned categories
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Professional negotiation skills with the ability to influence others
• Dynamic presentation skills

EDUCATION/TRAINING PREFERRED:
• 4 year degree in business or related field

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• 5 years or more experience in Category Management role
