Category Design Manager

A global consumer packaged goods company is looking for a Design Manager to oversee one of their major categories.

Responsibilities
- Develop solutions that fit the overall communication needs of the assigned projects with direction
- Execute visual design according to creative brief, specs and art direction
- Maintain an excellent grasp of the brand/product/promotion identity guidelines and apply their usage
- Effectively determine hierarchy of information on projects
- Meet specified deadlines
- Present well-organized, well-articulated concepts to Creative Brand Leads.
- Conduct laser checks and press checks on lower visibility print projects
- Develop solutions on projects with minimal direction
- Mentor designers and production artists in skills improvement and professional maturity; manages selection of design team members

Requirements
- Can define project and requirements and translate creative brief into impactful designs; can balance thinking out of the box with achieving marketing goals, budget and timeframe; provide estimates on project work
- Ability to initiate and articulate concepts
- Strong client relations skills
- Can organize disparate source materials into cohesive, relevant design
- Understands components, cycle times and production and distribution requirements of packaging projects
- Excellent command of formats, typography, graphics and layout
- Advanced knowledge of appropriate ratio of clear space, content and graphics to achieve a brand’s look and feel
- Excellent working knowledge of press and finishing technology and operations
- Ability to respond and perform swiftly and seamlessly in a rapidly changing environment
- Communicates easily and effectively with all levels of the organization
- Background in mass market CPG

BA in Graphic Design
- Minimum 7 years experience in packaging, design and/or marketing communications industry required
- Minimum 3 years experience designing and managing packaging materials within corporate identity guidelines
- Has collaborated with art directors, copywriters, other designers, photographers, production artists, and illustrators
- Has excelled in a fast-paced, high pressure corporate Creative Services or Marketing Communication matrix environment
