Team/Department Mission

The UK CMO team is responsible for delivering B2C & B2B marketing programmes in the UK in order to drive key marketing goals to meet our overall business objectives and UK country requirements for Microsoft Corp.

We manage a significant number of global superbrands including Windows, Windows Phone, Surface, Bing, MSN, Internet Explorer, Office, & Outlook – one of the most exciting brand portfolios available to any marketer.

The CMO team aspires to best-practice marketing, in pursuit of world-class status – through innovative campaigns, ground-breaking creativity, rigorous results analysis, and thorough consumer insight. We are a multi-award winning team receiving ongoing recognition from the industry, with a successful track record in innovation & creativity.

The Analytics team is part of the wider Digital team within UK CMO. It also encompasses Social Media, Digital Direct and Events, and we work closely together with the Marketing Communications within CMO to build integrated marketing campaigns and deliver ongoing customer communications and relationship programmes across all sectors of the organisation. We strive to combine digital innovation, technical platforms and tools, and marketing best practice in order to deliver on measurable business outcomes.

Role Purpose

The Analytics team lives and breathes to make data driven marketing the heart of all marketing communications. It does this through:

• Predictive analytics
• Reporting analytics
• Data strategy

This role is the subject matter expert of how we go to market with predictive and reporting analytics and the interface back to the business to make sure those analytics are used.

Success looks like:

• Delivery of analytical models to support marketing campaigns and always on engagement/lead generation programs.
• Localisation of global models and adapting them to the UK market to drive maximum marketing effectiveness
• Work with other marketing data analysts to deliver clear reporting using visualization techniques to ensure stakeholders can drive their businesses forward
• Raise the visibility of marketing insights, analytical models to marketing leadership team level to prove ROI and identify areas of improvement
• Create an efficient operating model so that analytics are spending their time in the right places and it’s a well-run program
• Construction of specialist analytical CUBEs for various business areas, primarily our B2B/commercial business
• Drive and mentor marketing analysts in the use of analytics within their everyday working with their clients
• To blend analytical solutions from the full suite of Msft’s assets, data and insights from Market data/intelligence through BI, Customer Intelligence and on to individuals in online and offline scenario’s

Key Success Criteria

• Adoption and understanding of the Analytics framework into the CMO marketing execution
• All outbound campaigns leveraging analytics in the planning, execution and reporting phases
• Positive ROI for lead gen and other marketing KPIs with attribution back to the data strategy
• Enable self-service reporting where possible

• Essential Experience
o Extensive Experience within an analytical background, preferably with some knowledge of the IT sector
o Commercial focus on how analytics can drive revenue and behaviour changes that drive revenue
o Will have worked primarily in the B2B sector, ideally in a modern SaaS software vendor organisation
o Previous ability to drive insight across various levels of disparate data, including social media/digital footprints and on to more traditional customer prospect and transactional data
o Having worked agency side as well as client side would be beneficial

• Technical / Functional Skills
• SQL + SSAS and SSIS
o Write procedures not just coding
• SAS will be beneficial but not essential as it is not common place at Msft
• OLAP cubes and BI tools
• Data management and manipulation
• Marketing background
• Measurement and Optimisation
• Marketing Mix and media experience
• Online and Offline and data integration
• Visualisation tools

• Personal Attributes / Interpersonal Skills
o Great communicator able to present complex issue in a business context.
o Exceptional organisational and delivery skills
o Commercially minded
o Visionary
• Qualifications
• Preferably degree level or equivalent in statistics
