CINEMATIC ENVIRONMENT/LEVEL ARTIST

The Cinematic Environment/Level Artist is expected to work closely with the Art Director, Cinematics Director, and the level designers to realize their vision for a cinematic space.

You will be responsible for collaborating with environments, cinematics, meshing, and level design. You will be expected to evangelize the artistry of the level, while also at times having to negotiate or come to a consensus with design. You will be expected to drive issues to resolution and get buy-in from involved parties.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Placing, replacing, and assembling art assets into the level/space according to cameras, both in cinematic-only spaces and shared spaces with gameplay.
• Working with AD and Cinematics Director to achieve visual direction for the level/space.
• Work within cinematic pipeline and processes, and provide suggestions for improvement where necessary.
• Collaborating with Level Designer(s) ensuring level is playable and hasn’t been broken.
• Engaging with Level Designer(s) when there is a conflict between art priorities and gameplay priorities.
• Creating and/or importing greybox environments to communicate intention for a space.
• Communicating cinematic set requirements to environment art team, and assist with any communication from environments to cinematics.
• Tuning realistic materials and lighting where appropriate.
• Building assets where appropriate using Maya and Photoshop as the core workflow.
• Optimizing content to achieve performance profiles and collaborating with technical artists.
• Providing estimates and logging work for the assets you create and place.
• Implementing feedback from stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS:
• 4-7+ years of environment/meshing art experience on level based titles.
• Expert in Unreal 4 or Unreal 3.
• Understanding of composition, material and lighting fundamentals.
• Excellent working knowledge of Maya and Photoshop.
• Strong working knowledge of Z-brush/Mudbox, a plus for MightyBake, xNormal, Knald, nDo, or Speedtree knowledge.
• Shader authoring and scripting are a plus.
