CINCINNATI - Sr. Public Outreach Specialist

The Public Outreach Specialists are a team of communications professionals with the proactive principles and processes in place to build upon the mission of Customer-Centric community outreach and Public Engagement. The Outreach Specialists understand that a project’s success depends on the relationship between the people involved and their understanding of an issue’s interconnected viewpoints. The toolkit includes successful strategies to ensure a cohesive, fully integrated engagement plan that informs the public about projects and helps minimize opposition. This function supports the successful siting of new transmission projects and the development, implementation and on-time completion of other transmission capital projects. Public Engagement is twofold: To advocate in the community for the corporation's transmission projects while also decreasing public opposition by building understanding of the benefits of reliability of the electric transmission grid. In addition, the program provides a structure to capture the perspectives, opinions, and concerns of the public to be incorporated in the planning, siting, permitting and construction processes. The Sr. Public Outreach Specialist requires in-depth knowledge and experience; coordinates complex communications internally and externally; works independently and receives minimum guidance.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: The primary responsibilities of the Public Outreach Specialists are to support the company's strategic outreach efforts for all major transmission projects including infrastructure siting and transmission construction activities. This position will assist with all outreach activities and initiatives including preparing and coordinating external written communications to property owners and other stakeholders, response, dispatch and tracking of external project inquiries, and monitoring and tracking project information.
*Other duties include: Participate in transmission Project Team meetings and processes, including field reviews and meetings with Corporate Communications and local Community Relations/District Managers to determine appropriate public engagement strategy.
*Draft letters, collateral and presentations as needed in coordination with internal communications departments, internal management, legal, engineering, siting team, etc.
*Coordinate the printing and mailing of external communications.
*Monitor property owner inquires on assigned projects and manage response and documentation.
*Maintains Salesforce recording site and other project documentation and reporting tools as needed.
*Lead the preparation and implementation of public information meetings and participate in public hearings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
*Five to eight years of professional related experience.
*Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university preferably with emphasis in mass communications or public relations.
*Strong communication skills (verbal and written) necessary to interact with project managers, Corporate Communications, Community Relations and Government Affairs Managers, management, other internal employees and external community representatives and organizations.
*Good working knowledge in Microsoft Office programs.
*Five to eight years of experience in public relations, community affairs, stakeholder engagement, corporate communications.
*Experience in electric utility business is preferred but not a requirement.
*Must be available for travel and to support after hours events
*Frequent travel to construction sites to meet with crews and customers
*Available to serve in an “on-call” duty
