COPYWRITER – Hispanic Market & Puerto Rico

Development and adaptation of copy in Spanish for advertising material and other collateral efforts in support of marketing programs for the U.S. Hispanic market and Puerto Rico: direct mail, preprints, ROP, magazine, digital display and assigned special projects.

1. Writes in or translates to Spanish, conceptualizes and develops relevant copy that supports the company’s marketing strategy.
2. Reviews advertising copy to ensure factual accuracy, brand consistency, adequacy of the message, creative effectiveness, compliance with government regulations and Company policy before submitting to manager. Researches terminology, processes and facts as needed.
3. Creates a cohesive relationship between visual and written creative concepts according to the Spanish language.
4. Edits typeset copy and reviews proper relationship and photography to product information, to ensure creative effectiveness, compliance with government regulations and Company policy.
5. Provides personal accountability for final proofing of all copy for assigned projects.
6. Familiarizes freelance writers with various lines of merchandise, all legal regulations and formats, and Company stylistic requirements.

1. Works with Senior Manager and Creative Advertising Teams regarding the development of the message and brand standards.
2. Interacts with Senior Manager to better understand marketing goals that may affect headline or copy strategy for selected elements, ensures consistency among all Hispanic advertising media—print, radio, TV and digital—, and coordinates written creative concepts.
3. Interfaces with agency partners in the development of assigned projects.
4. Works with production for final execution as necessary.
5. Interfaces with partners in Creative Advertising, Marketing, Planning and Allocation and Puerto Rico District Office in order to ensure consistency, accuracy and legal compliance on assigned projects.

College degree in journalism, marketing or advertising, or equivalent work experience.

At least 4–6 years in copywriting for related media, with proven management skills and preferably with agency experience.

Core Competencies: (Specialized)
1. Must be fluent and proficient in spoken and written Spanish. Preferably a native Spanish speaker educated in Latin America.
2. Excellent grammar and spelling skills in Spanish.
3. Ability to understand and consider the characteristics, needs, and cultural differences and similarities among the Hispanic population in the US and Puerto Rico when developing advertising and any other communication in Spanish.
4. Must have a sense of style.
5. Should be able to portray a high taste level in all communication arts.
6. Must be proficient in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop for Mac.

• Translating English to Spanish with the ability to maintain the impact and accuracy of the message without affecting the naturalness of the language.
• Ensure alignment with the company’s messaging strategy and copy/graphic standards.

• Work portfolio is required
• Advertising agency experience and use of graphic software is a plus.
