Bespoke Product Manager

Our client creates expressive and beautiful luxury cars that are environmentally conscious. They deliver them with personal attention to customers in the global marketplace. Their customers expect high levels of personalization and customization and the client intend to deliver on that promise.

This Bespoke Product Manager candidate will be responsible for the operational process and success of the near-term bespoke customization business. Contributing directly in the product development process, this person will translate the voice-of-the-customer needs, Design group intentions, our brand essence and the company’s business objectives into attainable vehicle attributes. This person will drive the formal documentation of those attributes in product program materials and take a leadership role in managing their timely execution across staffs and over the course of the product development cycle.

In addition to the short-term goals, this person will develop and propose a bespoke customization business model that will enable greater levels of customization over time. This may involve business planning and identifying 3rd party supplier(s) that will execute extensive customization of features, accessories, colors, trims and equipment based on the desires of individual customers. This person has the potential to create a virtual business unit for the client with measurable P&L responsibility.

Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities
Translate the voice-of-the-customer needs and our client brand identity into descriptive and objective vehicle attributes
Translate the Design and Studio objectives of the creative process into an actionable “operational definition” in both oral and written communication to enable Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and other downstream processes to succeed efficiently and effectively
Contribute thought leadership into the process of determining the tradeoffs during program development
Represent the voice of the customer in Engineering, Supplier Quality and technical reviews
Represent the voice of Engineering and Operations in marketing and design reviews
Lead cross-functional teams of experts that may involve Marketing, Sales, Finance, Design, Engineering, Service and other stakeholders to deliver products for our customers
Work with Finance, Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales and other staffs as necessary to assemble an accurate business case rationale for the bespoke customization business initiatives
Contribute to the company’s competitive benchmarking knowledge base

Qualifications:

Education
Bachelor’s degree in business or engineering is required
Advanced degree in business or engineering is a plus
Related Experience
Minimum 6 years of relevant work experience
Hands-on mechanical and/or electrical experience with automobiles a plus
Familiarity with luxury cars or the luxury goods market a plus
Skill / Knowledge
Background in automotive light duty product development processes and terms
Business acumen and an awareness of basic financial terms and practices
Direct or in-direct vehicle integration experience including powertrain calibration, testing, vehicle ride and handling
Familiarity with the automotive value chain of consumer research, vehicle development, test, production, distribution, sales, aftersales
Competency in MS Office products including Word/Excel/Powerpoint/MSProject
Physical Requirements
Bending, stretching, reaching while in the office/shop/plant environment
Holding and lifting automotive parts of light/moderate weight
Travel up to 15% possible
Licensed driver
