Associate Technical Designer

As a member of the Merchandising, Design, and Product Development Leadership Team, you will manage a team of designers to concept, design, and execute company product to be sold through their catalog, website and retail stores. Your overarching goal will be to successfully combine performance with fashion in our products as well as to balance process and creativity in your practice.

Primary responsibilities include:

Support your Design counterparts through the “Concepting Process” each season by:
o Establish major themes, key trends and direction for the line including color, silhouette, fabric and print that is in keeping with the brand aesthetic.
Work with them to:
• Competitive shop for inspiration and sport specific relevance
• Attend relevant trade shows, including trim and fabric resources and markets
• Evaluate trend and color forecasting services and identify influential subscription selections
• Gather and identify relevant sport and activity trend information
• Communicate trend, conceptual and strategic design messages to the team
• Collaborate with Merchandising and Product Development Directors to develop seasonal timelines and create and communicate seasonal business & product strategies and theming to cross functional teams


Lead and manage the creative development and execution of product within the guidelines of the brand identity and seasonal timelines
o Utilize trend direction, merchant driven historical selling information, competitive benchmarking, and customer feedback to oversee and vet the development of product (specifically sketch review) that wins on performance, style, quality and fit
o Support the graphic/textile designers in the preparation of materials and execution of artistic concepts for communication to and sampling by the vendor base
o Oversee color and lab dip approval process in keeping with brand protocol
o Within framework of assortment plan, provide direction and feedback to designers on product concepts to reflect a balance between fashion/function and core/emerging businesses for presentation to and selection by the merchant team
o Manage sampling process and development to adoption ratio
o Manage timelines and process to insure deadlines are met
o Balance existing winning businesses with newness and appropriate product iterations to create brand consistency and cohesiveness
o Initiate concept development of custom branded trim and logo applications
o Collaborate with merchant team to merchandise each product line
o Collaborate with merchant team during line coloring process
o With designers evaluate all first proto samples for style, construction and aesthetic
o With merchant team, evaluate photo samples for accuracy and execution
o Oversee preparation of materials for design meetings and seasonal line review presentations
o Design product on appropriate timelines to expand into new categories of business
Manage development of team members and seasonal design interns
o Attracts, develops and retain creative talent
o Develop high performing individual contributors and leaders of others
o Motivate, inspire and supervise team as it develops in the future
o Develop yearly goals and implement action plans for design team that support corporate business goals and objectives
o Support team in developing individual goals and provide them with tools and training for their professional development
