Associate Director of Editorial

Our client is looking to hire an Associate Director of Editorial on a contract-to-hire basis. Starts immediately!

This person will manage the organization's day-to-day marketing, media relations, creative editorial, and design services. Advises top management on development of communications policies and advertising programs, and the management of public relations issues. Supervises communications staff in the writing, preparation and/or delivery of information from or about the unit. May write press releases, speeches or other material as needed. Ensures consistency of unit's message and image across all communications media, which may include a Web site. May develop and manage communications budget.

The Associate Director, Editorial, leads a team of writers and editors within the creative department and is responsible for promoting the voice and vision of the organization through conceiving, writing, editing, and managing a wide range of print and digital communications for client departments, including brochures, magazines, websites and interactive features, advertising, social media, video scripts, brand positioning and messaging, and marketing and promotional plans and campaigns that enhance the image and perception of the organization. Utilizes superior skills at writing creative, strategic, on-brand copy and at mentoring and directing other writers.

Lead multiple communications projects at every stage, including creative direction, conceptualization, writing, editing, and production, collaborating with clients, designers, multimedia producers, project managers, and our creative partners on campus to bring projects to fruition. Manages multiple projects of various types, with different components, stakeholders, and deadlines.

Serves as part of the senior team, collaborating with the associate directors for design and multimedia to develop and deliver cohesive communications across all media. Directly supervises the department's staff of writers and editors, with responsibility for hiring new staff and conducting annual evaluations. Provides staff with strategic, creative, and editorial mentorship, guidance, and feedback on projects in progress. Manages the editorial process, workload, and workflow. Maintains the editorial guidelines and standards.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field required.
Master's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field preferred.
Experience A minimum of five years of experience in a collegiate or professional communications setting required.
Experience mentoring other writers and editors in a professional setting required.
Experience adhering to an editorial style, such as the Chicago Manual of Style or AP required.
Experience with the Chicago Manual of Style preferred.

Supervisory experience preferred.
