Art Editor, required to work on the art and design of a monthly Magazine and associated print products, ensuring all art and design meets the brand, publishing and audience expectations in terms of visual identity.

Your experience will include:

 Current relevant art editor experience working on a consumer magazine

 Demonstrable portfolio of editorial layout, art and design for consumer publishing.

 High levels of competency using Adobe Creative Suite software, with a high degree of experience and expertise in

using InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

 Demonstrable knowledge of best practice magazine design principles and approaches.

You will work under the direction of the Art and Production Director. The role will be hands-on, designing and delivering pages and content in line with editorial and publishing requirements. It will ensure allcreative work is completed within the publishing schedule and to a professional standard.

The role will maintain the standards of creative and technical quality within the art department, ensuring Magazine design and artwork is of the highest quality and adheres to the brand identity.

The role will provide day-to-day design and art leadership for the Magazine. It will work closely with the Picture Editor and Art and Production Director to deliver page layouts, designs and artwork in line with the magazine needs.

The role will generate creative design and art ideas and solutions to creative print challenges, and to lead in allocating and managing art and design projects from freelancers and other design staff within the business.

It will be responsible to bringing in emerging design and art trends, ensuring designs are inspirational, confident, relevant and accessible for the Magazine’s readership.

You will be responsible for the lifecycle of all design and art work – from concept to print – including checking proofs, managing amends within schedules, supplying correct PDFs and proofs to the production team, ensuring all artwork meets press pass requirements, and ensuring all pages are checked before sending to repro.

 Creative problem solver, with a clear ability to use visual design language in print.

 Produces consistent, high calibre print design and layout work quickly, accurately and with technical proficiency.

 Ability to motivate and engage with teams and key stakeholders across the business

 Highly organised with a ‘today, not tomorrow’ approach to work, with the ability to prioritise projects and design requirements.

 Highly personable, able to lead as well as work as part of a team, with a proactive approach to personal responsibility in work.

 An excellent communicator and collaborator, able to clearly communicate design ideas and concepts as well as work with other stakeholders to deliver creative solutions.


My client is based in Kent on the south Coast, less than 1 hr from central London on high speed services. There is also parking available for free in the local area.

This role could also be offered on a more flexible arrangement (flexi times or part time/pro rata salary) that would balance well with family/lifestyle commitments.
