Art Director (Packaging)

The Art Director for Packaging Design is responsible for the management and hands-on execution of comprehensive branding and packaging design projects for a global consumer goods company.

The main objective of this role is to art direct package design projects (primary/secondary) for the portfolio of the product category. This means working with the clients on planning, organizing, art directing and presenting design solutions.

Who you are:
You have lived and breathed nothing but mass consumer packaged goods design for a minimum of 10 years and you have the portfolio to prove it.
By now you have developed a strong point-of-view on what constitutes extraordinarily effective package design.
You understand the role of packaging at retail and are completely capable of articulating your POV on design solutions to clients.
You have the vision, courage and ability to lead all package design initiatives for all clients across category.
You possess the unique flexibility, personality and collaboration skills necessary to work cross-functionally with Creative Directors, Senior Designers, Junior Designer and Production
You have developed an expertise in the field of store brand packaging design and can be the go-to person on the subject.
You have the ability to give an engaging and energetic client presentations

Position Overview
Senior Art Director will lead all packaging assignments for clients across category within the design studio. The perfect candidate has the proven ability to translate marketing strategies/briefs and project parameters into appealing design solutions and comprehensive concepts that command attention, capture the imagination, change behavior and move shoppers to react.


Essential Job Functions
· Main point-of-contact for clients to discuss packaging projects, present design solutions and provide project budgets/timelines
· Contribute by bringing a big voice, big ideas, and distinctive solutions
· Collaborate with Senior and Junior Package Designers on packaging projects (Phase 1 through to production design)
· Conceptual thinking; play an active role in brainstorming and ideation
· Work within client brand design standards and/or create them

Basic Job Qualification: Skills and Abilities
· Understanding of the clients category of products
· Possess excellent presentation skills and the ability to articulate thinking in a logical and insightful way
· Responsive and efficient; ability to organize and manage multiple projects
· Work well under pressure of deadlines
· Strong eye for details
· Ability to work at a very high strategic level and switch gears when required to an executional level

Education/Experience/Training
· Minimum of 10 years of consumer packaged goods experience in an agency or package design firm
· Proficient in current Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, In-Design (Creative Cloud)
· Bachelor’s Degree or Masters in packaging, branding and graphic design
· Experience in design management (overseeing projects and teams)
