Art Director- Active Sport

Top notch Portland-based design agency providing modern design strategy, production and execution for the world’s leading active lifestyle brands, looking to add an Art Director to their team. Must have experience designing for retail to be considered

This is a lead position reporting to the Executive Art Director. Your core responsibility is to concept and drive strategy for graphic design work for multiple Nike categories. Being an Art Director requires holistic thinking – how do you bring a brand to life in retail channels and other touch points? How do you explain product benefits in a visual manner? Experience bout the entire consumer journey. Nike is a highly conceptual, storytelling driven client. Think big picture.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Play a key role in conducting conceptual explorations, including research, design, content development, and art direction of photography.
  • Able to develop and integrate campaigns across multiple platforms driving compelling and cohesive stories.
  • Responsible for understanding target audience needs and design trends and applying them to the creative process.
  • Lead creative execution for key clients. Manage and lead client presentations.
  • Oversee the creative output of lead designers, graphic designers and production designers assigned to your accounts. Know how to delegate.
  • Push our client’s and agency's design standards forward by looking for new, innovative and successful ways to communicate through design.
  • Active in the local creative community, leading studio tours, sitting on panels, conduct portfolio reviews, etc.
  • Develop a close relationship with the client; be as invested in their brand and work as they are


  • SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 7–10+ years experience working on a major footwear or apparel brand (agency side preferred)
  • Excellent leadership skills; inspire your team and collaborate
  • Expert level Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Expert conceptual, layout and type-handling abilities
  • Ability to sketch, illustrate and communicate visual ideas
  • Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications or equivalent
  • Graphic design skills are key – this is a hands on position!
  • Passion for the brand is important
  • Bonus points for magic tricks
