Project Overview:

This program is used around the world to aid people in navigating and finding places. Our team works directly on the map surface and is constantly iterating and evolving the map visualization to better answer questions people have about the world around them.

We’re looking for a designer to help us evolve the map surface so that it is more helpful and assistive to our users.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Understand and execute on design frameworks for how elements show on the map
  • Work with visual designers, motion designers, PM, Eng, and Research to execute on work required to support learning plans
  • Full-stack design work from building the design rationale as well as implementation of the detailed solution

Top 3 Daily Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with PMs, Engineers, and design leads to understand the requirements and provide creative, rationalized solutions
  • Iterate on design direction throughout the UX process - from wireframing, flows, storyboards, and prototypes
  • Integrate user feedback and business requirements into updates to the overall product experience

Mandatory Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, HCD, Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Architecture, Urban Planning, Data Visualization, Cartography, GIS, or related field
  • 3+ years experience designing data visualizations
  • 2+ years of product design for mobile devices
  • Designing and prototyping with code (e.g., HTML, CSS) - Candidate must be willing to learn to build their work in code
  • Strong macro interaction design skills (information architecture and systems based design)
  • Flow based thinking for constructing end-to-end prototypes/experiences for how people move through the experience

Non-Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • Skills in communication design and influencing product design strategy
  • Ability to iterate and ideate from scratch utilizing user needs and business goals
