Job Description:

We’re looking for a driven researcher who is radically inspired by people and excels at leading the charge of gathering and communicating insights that put our users at the center of our product thinking. The ideal candidate loves working with peers and leaders to mine for insights that drive elegant solutions to tough problems.

In this role, you will work alongside partners from Design, Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, and other core teams to ensure your research is optimized, developing key insights, and driving great experiences. You will also work closely with our team of talented Design Researchers in designing, planning, conducting, and socializing user research across a spectrum of methodologies.

- experience in conducting user research with early technology development & innovation stages a big bonus, but not sought after

Responsibilities:
Own the role of point person between stakeholder teams and design research, developing key relationships and advocating for our users every chance you get.
Establish and maintain an efficient strategy for scoping research, execution, visual storytelling and utilization of findings and artifacts to ensure alignment and action across internal partners.
Utilize a mixed-methods practice of gathering both generative and evaluative insights.
Methods will vary according to problem context, and may include: in-lab and field studies, online surveys, usability testing, moderated and unmoderated remote testing, participatory design, customer journey mapping, personas, benchmarking, heuristic evaluations, in-depth user interviews, as well as stakeholder interviews.
Monitor the impact of insights generated by the team and help evangelize user-centered technology design at eBay.
Play a key role in the continuous growth and evolution of Design Research practice at eBay.

Qualifications:

- 4+ years of experience in an applied user research setting
- Advanced Degree in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science, or a related field
- Consistent track record of building and curating a Design Research program, employing a range of methodologies depending on need
- Practical experience in deploying qualitative and quantitative research methods throughout the product development lifecycle, from conceptualization to launch
- Experience in delivering both generative and evaluating research projects that have resulted in real product/policy impact
- Ability to solve complex problems and support the team in delivery of insights
- Strong communication skills, experienced influencer, storyteller, and advocate for user research

Preferred:
- 4+ years of experience in an applied user research setting
- experience working among remote/dispersed teams
- eCommerce/global research experience desired
- experience in conducting user research with early technology development & innovation stages a big bonus, but not sought after

 

2+ years of qualitative research experience with users, ideally in a corporate/product environment if possible

Demonstrated success working autonomously or leading a large chunk or entire project, experience coordinating the work of others is a plus

STRONG communication skills, ability to talk about ones own research eloquently and succinctly, strong presentation skills and ability to speak clarly and confidently to peers and senior level positions on stakeholder teams

This role will be embedded with sets of stakeholder teams, and the candidates will be able to act as point person on behalf of the interface between them and design research, owning the relationships and managing the coordination of work

Working closely with the team, the candidate will collect research requests and needed information, plot out a quarterly research plan and schedule, and then work to execute the projects

The candidate may be asked to help coordinate the work of outside vendor agencies who perform work on our behalf, if there is funding available for something we decide not to take on ourselves

The candidate will synthesize the research findings and develop polished report collaterals and present the research findings over zoom calls/worshops to key stakeholders
