Job Description:

Aquent's leading Global footwear and sports client is looking for a Color Designer 2 to work an assignment role for 4 months ( potential extension).  Must have design portfolio and specific Color Design conceptual work. Will be remote based, PST time zone preferred and local to Portland preferred, but not required. 

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 6 years experience in positions with increasing levels of responsibility in product creation, design, color, merchandising and strategic business plan development including at least 1 year of management experience.
  • Must have demonstrated passion for color, design and the power of combining these two, leading to demonstrated results.
  • Experience and success in gaining support and leading a group with and without direct reporting structure is critical.
  • Must have proven background passion for color and using that enthusiasm to drive ideas and gain support behind them.
  • Exceptional presentation skills.

Business Management

Directs and manages color process for product group or group of categories.

Creates and brings to life the corporate color direction across the group on a seasonal basis. Drives color collections and flow plans.

Drives clear group strategies in the areas of color, materials, and graphics.

Develops action plans and processes, in coordination with management team, for integrating activities and optimizing department resources to meet major goals and objectives. Participates in business planning, budgeting, and policy development.

Participates in functional discussions and initiatives across departments.

Develops internal and/or external partnerships that leverage resources and improve business unit responsiveness.

Color Design Execution

Executes color designs.

Creates and manages own seasonal/annual project load within the overall color design workload of the team.

May work on category and/or cross-category programs.

Creates color calendar/timelines/ deadlines for group, including product design critical dates. Remains aware of critical dates as it relates to color integration across products.

Consumer Research

Leads trend and inspiration research and presentations for group.

Translates corporate color committee, macro- and color trends to divisional specific level as it relates to color, finish, and materials.

Gathers color, design, and lifestyle trends seasonally.

Develops and directs seasonal color strategy for products, line segments and initiatives.

Knows the consumer.

Displays in-depth understanding of consumer, brand-positioning needs as it relates to group. Uses knowledge of consumers and their cultures to improve product performance & appearance.

Demonstrates strong knowledge about competitor products, consumer retail habits, color, and market trends.

Applies insights from consumer perspective into color solutions.

Presentations & Communication

Presents and communicates color design direction and results to a variety of audiences. Presents projects at all stages.

Drives color merchandising strategies and stories seasonally.

Works with Color Design Director and Color Design Leadership team to produce presentation materials that effectively communicates color direction related to consumer, product concepts and creative strategy to internal audiences, i.e. Concept Debut, Adoptions and other decision making gates.

Skill Development

Builds and evolves management skills.

Develops color excellence for division through a clear understanding of color, trend, processes and the consumer.

Evolves divisional “brand character” as it relates to color, materials and finishes.

Together with Footwear Color Design leadership team, creates and drives the overall color strategy for footwear.

Facilitates and delivers bi-annual divisional color needs for incorporation into corporate color committee. Shares category/divisional color direction as appropriate with apparel, equipment and brand to facilitate cross-divisional integration. Stays abreast of industry and technology developments within the color design profession. Shares methods with color design organization.

Serves on color design selection team as needed with portfolio review, interviewing, recommending.
