Job Description:
We are looking to recruit an experienced research professional to join our User Experience Research team in San Jose. You will be an experienced researcher with a passion for creative and dynamic insights that help teams build better products that ship.
You will have a proven track record of designing and delivering a wide range of research projects, and be comfortable with traditional and new approaches in recruitment, methodology and reporting.

Usability, eye tracking, in-homes, contextual inquiry, evaluative or generative, whatever the method, you are at heart a deep and insightful thinker who brings a fresh perspective and strong point of view to your work. You enjoy working across methods and techniques, and will be as comfortable facilitating a lab study as moderating a cocreation group, working across the product lifecycle. You will be a powerful presenter, communicator, and influencer, with an understanding of the bigger picture, including product and business needs. You deliver work with energy and passion, and, understand the value of strong, clear, visual outputs and deliverables.

About the Team and this need:
The UED team champions user-centered design across our organization.
Working in partnership with Product and Engineering teams, we build the next generation of financial services products. The UER team, working with our Design partners, designs and delivers impactful research that guides our work and brings the voice of the user to all we do.

This role will be having an immediate impact in helping shape our current product roadmap and upcoming product releases for our Partner and Developer User Segments.

Need an experienced Senior UX Researcher to help with a backlog of research work that needs to be done to support Partner and Developer product team. We are specifically looking for a person who can move quickly and work closely with another Sr Researcher supporting this area.

• Identify key research questions and objectives in partnership with product, design and engineering teams
• Design and develop thought-provoking research methods and approaches that best meet needs
• Identify research and design targets, developing screeners that best support projects, as well as creative recruitment strategies where required
• Carry out research projects with highest levels of customer awareness and business/brand reputation
• Synthesize/analyze data and findings, developing genuine insights, outputs and frameworks
• Design creative and compelling deliverables, focused on visually telling the story, and highlighting important insights
• Plan and deliver research programs within budget, timeline and project
• Review with colleagues, and present work to multiple teams and leaders, across the organization and outside where required
• Provide input and guidance to junior team members and colleagues, helping teams get on the right track and stay customer focused

Top Must Have Skills:
• Senior researcher with solid research background, 6 – 8 years of experience working in a fast paced applied setting
• Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; a team player and a strong partner

• Understanding of how to conduct research on your own including a mix of a few research methods: usability, contextual inquiry, diaries, simple surveys, card sorting, concept testing, etc. 

• Understanding of when and how to apply these methods versus when answers can be best answered by Analytics or Market Research.

• Can say ‘no’ to projects when it makes sense and help the team in other ways whether it be previous research or work that may be planned by another team.

• Can pull together an understanding of what is known about a topic. 

• Can work independently and with other researchers a collaborators. 

• Can juggle multiple projects at once across various stakeholders. A self-starter.

• Collaborative with stakeholders and folks across their organization
• Experience across products and platforms, financial services expertise an advantage


Plus (not required):

• Has done research with hard to reach audiences

• Has done research with technical audiences and/or areas whereby they had less familiarity and had to build domain knowledge

• Merchant and / or enterprise research experience  


What this position IS NOT:

• Hybrid design/research role

• Level where someone could head up their own research team

• New to research and still mastering the skills

• Someone looking to get into tech from another industry

• Quantitative researcher with minimal qualitative background

• 6-8 years experience in user experience research and design; across companies or fields an advantage
• Undergraduate degree in design, user experience HCI or related field, relevant postgraduate degree an advantage
• Experience across products and platforms, financial services expertise an advantage
• Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; a team player and a strong partner
• Practical understanding of traditional and new research and recruitment
methods, UX methodology and design thinking
• Ability to influence and guide others on the value and importance of user
centered thinking and research
• An understanding of the bigger picture; user context, product lifecycle, key channels, platforms and competitor experiences etc.

Bachelors and/or Master’s Degree in the study of user experience, design, research or related fields; for example Design, Information Architecture, Human Factors/HCI, Psychology, Cognitive Sciences OR alternative equivalent project/portfolio experience.
