Our Pharmacuetical client in North Chicago is looking for new talent to join their Creative Team within BSG (Business Services Group). This team oversees the creative services for Corporate (HR/Finance/Public Affairs), R&D, and Commerical (Meeting & Events). The ideal candidate has a sense of humor, is passionate about their job, and is an active learner. 

The Senior Writer develops and implements internal and external communication plans, campaigns, promotional programs and meeting/event deliverables that support business objectives, as well as project work for teams, across the entire enterprise. Works collaboratively with fellow creative staff, including Creative Directors, Designers, Production staff and external vendor partners. Contributes to the development and clarification of project scope, timeline and budget, and shares accountability with Account Teams in delivering against project requirements and client expectations, proactively course-correcting when necessary. 

Project Initiation and Discovery: 
• Analyzes messages, assesses any existing or historical content/documents and determines how messaging would be best communicated, what physical or digital forms it should take, what writing standards must be adhered to and what tone of voice will help best achieve the overall goal. 

Creative Execution and Implementation: 
• Develops and executes creative and medically/scientifically accurate content for project deliverables and tactics that support business and communication objectives.
• Executes communication plans/strategies, content audits/outlines, scripts, taglines, copy and edits based on project specifications. 
• Implements appropriate internal and external approval processes. 
• Consistently communicates timely and accurate information as project progresses, meets deadlines and executes quality standards. 
• Proactively utilizes quality control processes, including proofreading, always leveraging best practices for greater efficiency. Provides innovative solutions that result in process improvement. 
• Works directly with meeting and events team, account teams, project management, creative directors, fellow writers and proofreaders to deliver against creative objectives/themes across a variety of print and electronic deliverables. 
• Anticipates project needs and proactively provides expertise and innovative solutions to meet them. 
• Must track time on a daily basis and meet established utilization numbers for this function. 


• Knowledge of regulations, standards and healthcare trends affecting pharmaceutical products and biotech. 
• Should have good working knowledge of brand identity/tone of voice, editorial copy, information graphics and data visualization, as well as experience developing written content for a wide variety of deliverables, including but not limited to medical writing, scientific content, technical writing, video scripts, executive presentations/speech writing, print/electronic collateral, promotional materials, web/interactive/social, adult learning, disease state awareness, taglines/headlines and copy writing/editing. 
• Must have critical thinking skills as well as a good sense of appropriate deliverables for a variety of audiences and communication needs. 
• Must ensure that content enhances and helps clearly communicate the creative theme, key messages, learning objectives and/or call to action. 
• Must have enough creative expertise to expand upon creative concepts that strongly support project objectives, tone and positioning. 
• Must possess sufficient creative talents, understanding and technical skills of print/digital media to determine the best method to portray the creative concept. 
• Must be able to develop content that will break through the clutter and communicate the key message(s) aligned to the client objectives. 
• Must work well under pressure, exercising good judgment as well as good interpersonal skills. Must be able to articulate ideas to colleagues in creative meetings and presentations. 
• Must have a good grasp of project time requirements to be able to meet deadlines, client expectations and avoid over-commitment. 
• Must be able to work collaboratively within a team and seek clarity amid ambiguity. 
• Must be able to clearly communicate with and gather insights from others, including fellow creative/design staff, internal stakeholders, marketing teams, scientific/clinical staff, Medical/Regulatory/Legal Reviewers, external resources/vendors and senior leaders/executives. 
• Requires high-caliber written work that translates into visual communications, creating the greatest impact. 

Minimum Education: BA/BS required in communications or journalism. 
Minimum Experience: 5-7 years of experience within a graphic design firm, advertising agency, in-house corporate graphics department and/or freelance business.
