Assistant Merchant / Coordinator

Start Date:  ASAP

Contract Length:  6 Months

Location:  San Francisco, CA

Pay Rate:  $22/hour


** A Fortune 500 Fashion Retailer is seeking an Assistant Merchant/Coordinator for their team in San Francisco, CA **



The purpose of this role is to act as an integral part of the regional retail merchandising team for an assigned category.  Supports the Senior Buyer Merchant in day to day functions involved with activation and in-season management of the specified assortment.



  • Responsible for building and maintaining the assortment tool by category; managing activation of assortment in relevant systems
  • Responsible for supporting in season management – working with supply planning to manage on time receipts and receipt shifts
  • Provide ad hoc and routine reporting and analytical support to Senior Merchants and cross-functional team to assess business opportunities and risks
  • Manage promotional pricing and price changes
  • Maintenance of line development content across numerous systems
  • Work cross functionally to ensure delivery of floor set communication and seasonal selling tools
  • Accountability for assisting in the preparation of materials for critical internal / external meetings
  • Manage maintenance of garment samples
  • Support competitive mapping activities
  • Responsible for assortment activation and seasonal coding
  • Issuance of third party PO’s
  • Coordination with customer service and global supply planning on inventory tracking and PO management
  • Liaise with third party vendors as needed for :  PO issuance and management, UPC transmissions, and delivery tracking
  • Supports merchants in maintaining assortment tools and systems of record as needed
  • Execution of monthly price changes and weekly promotional activities
  • Supports merchants in generation of reports
  • Facilitate access to required garment samples through strong partnership with in-house sample library, and manage maintenance of on hand samples
  • Support in coordination of samples and set up of merchandise assortment presentations and reviews
  • Clearly communicate merchandise assortment strategies to business partners such as visual merchandising, planning and global merchants




  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2 years work experience with an apparel manufacturer, retailer or marketer
  • Accuracy:  Ensure effective data management through accurate data entry
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Team Player:  Ability to build good working relationships and communicate effectively with internal and external contacts
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong detail orientation and thoroughness
  • High degree of flexibility and initiative with limited direction
  • Proficiency in MS office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
