Sr. Packaging Engineer


Duties: We are seeking a creative packaging individual who is involved in the entire package design process. The individual will be able to drive the packaging process with exceptional project management and creative skills. Integral to the success of this position, the Sr. Packaging Engineer will collaborate professionally with all cross-functional teams including Design, Marketing, Content and Sales, along with all manufacturing counterparts overseas.

This is a highly creative team working on a variety of brands for an extensive line of playful and engaging products.

KEY RESULTS AREAS
As a Sr. Packaging Engineer, this individual will design and develop innovative structural packaging solutions to support all existing and new product launches.

The ideal candidate must possess the ability to:

  • Create innovative structures to ensure competitive advantage
  • Design 30 structures that compliment and protect complex products in transit and whilst on shelf at retail
  • Ensure that all executions are on brand and differentiated within a complex competitive landscape
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adhere to all packaging and business schedules
  • Work cohesively and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Have a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes, including print materials and packaging labor methods
  • Present ideas, problems and solutions to management and peers

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as liaison and creative engineering partner with our overseas Supplier network
  • Meet specific package engineer milestones and support the schedule
  • Participate in various team/department/management meetings. This is a very collaborative role requiring strong communication and partnering skills

Skills: 

  • Highly creative individual with ability to develop innovative package solutions utilizing chipboard, corrugate, plastics, P.E.T and styrene
  • Knowledge of package manufacturing processes and capable of generating detailed packaging specs. Must have experience re-thinking package designs with new, innovative executions.
  • Experience working in a team environment, under tight deadlines, building strong relationships.
  • Proficiency in Artios CAD and SolidWorks.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • Originate a package concept for cost estimation and provide packaging solutions and cost savings as needed
  • Current knowledge of competitive products at retail
  • Create innovative structures to ensure competitive advantage
  • Design 3D structures that complement and protect complex products
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize accordingly
  • Adherence to packaging/business schedules
  • Present ideas, problems and solutions to management and peers.
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to take initiative
  • Licensed package design experience preferred

EDUCATION REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree. 3-5 years of Packaging or Industrial Design experience preferred.
