Job Description:

Our client in the financial services industry is looking for a Content Strategist on a 18-month contract basis.

Candidates will research/gather core content from a variety of sources and distill technical information into actionable and practical thought leadership program content. Role will include writing and creating new content, as well as updating existing content, such as: whitepapers, presentations, email content, social media posts, web content, brochures and other promotional materials. Utilizes strong marketing competencies to support overall business, marketing strategy and tactical action plans, with a core focus on technical writing and research. Strategy and tactical execution in this role will help ensure long­term sustainable growth of the business and include projects of mid to high complexity. Candidate will project and forecast future marketing needs to help execute against overall marketing strategy, while also helping evaluate the impact of marketing strategies and tactics.

This role is on the Retirement Institute marketing team, focused on thought leadership and value-­added content, primarily supporting financial services lines of business (annuities, life insurance, mutual funds and retirement plans). The financial services distribution and marketing execution is primarily B2B, targeting financial advisors and their firms. Current programs include: Social Security, Health Care and Long­term Care, Market Insights (capital market commentary), Tax Efficiency, Retirement Income Planning, Women and Investing, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Reporting Relationships: Reports to Consultant.

Duties, Responsibilities and Capabilities:

Technical writing: Distill technical information into actionable and practical thought leadership program content. Role will include updating existing and creating new whitepapers, presentations, email content, social media posts, web content, brochures and other promotional materials.
Research: Independently perform market research, analysis and delivery of insights and recommendations, with the ability to synthesize data with intuition. This includes primary and secondary research, both formal (in partnership with Market Research team) and more frequently informal.
Branding: Guides and builds the brand within area of responsibility, including the development and delivery of the On Your Side Experience to all stakeholders. Ensures consistency for all customers, considering company values and legal/compliance requirements. Learning and executing within brand standards is critical.
Strategic Connection: Assists in the development and execution of strategies and plans that ensure longterm sustainable growth of the business, as well as driving value for specific assigned projects.
Communications: Utilizes strong personal oral and written communication skills in both internal and external presentations, materials, communications, etc. Ability to calibrate messages, context and level of detail based on audience.
Marketing Capabilities: Contributes to the development of increased marketing capability both within the team and across the Marketing organization. Helps other functions understand the role of Marketing in driving the business. Takes steps to grow own knowledge to advanced levels. Able to quickly understand roles and processes, while also identifying opportunities for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
Project Management: Strong project and organizational capability. Guides and focuses project teams to accomplish specific goals. Sets long­term strategic and short­-term tactical goals, and proactively communicates status to key stakeholders. Effectively manages input and feedback across multiple stakeholders. Manages workflow and organizational planning. Recommends project and department specific budget needs and manages budget to goal.
Relationship Management: Ability to effectively manage and nurture positive relationships with peers, leaders, business partners and stakeholders, each of whom carries unique points of view, agendas, skill sets, business needs, etc. Leverages subject matter expertise and strategic mindset to help advise and influence others, but is also able to compromise and help reach consensus when appropriate.
Other: Performs other duties as assigned.

Typically 7 or more years of professional experience in marketing and/or technical writing in financial services, insurance and/or related field.
Masters degree may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirements as appropriate.
Management or project leadership experience preferred.
Knowledge: In­depth knowledge of marketing methodologies, financial services and/or insurance products, distribution systems, and customers. Knowledge of project leadership concepts and methodologies.
Skills/ Competencies: Possesses exceptional technical writing capabilities, strong verbal and written skills needed to develop and review research studies, communicate research findings, market recommendations based on findings, develop and negotiate contracts/service agreements with internal/external contacts, manage market planning projects, and manage relationships. Ability to manage and prioritize projects. Ability to function independently or in a team environment with limited supervision. Ability to operate a personal computer and advanced business software.
